WRR aims to promote a long-term view of government policies by exploring new problems, analyzing existing problems in a broad context, and identifying new perspectives and solutions. The council can deal with any topic of government policy, as long as it is concerned with the future, relates to major a social issue, and is not limited to a single sector in nature. The WRR Act of Establishment lays down a minimum of five members and a maximum of 11, which are appointed for five years and may be reappointed once. The council has a bureau (scientific and administrative staff from various disciplines), which supports the multidisciplinary approach of its activities.

The Institute's objective is to study developments regarding international politics and socio-economic issues by means of research, training, and public information in the broadest sense as well as to promote further debate on international relations. The Institute provides courses on all major aspects of international relations, particularly in the fields of diplomacy, security, and European integration. The results of individual or collective research are published as articles in journals, as special Institute publications, or as commercially published books. The Institute collaborates on a systematic basis with seven European sister organizations, as well as with kindred institutes in Europe and the United States. IVO is the research institute of Tilburg University and maintains a strong relationship with it, as reflected in its joint research program. Its mission is to carry out applied socio-economic research to contribute to poverty alleviation. The institute was established in recognition of social responsibility, and poverty in the decolonizing regions of the world is seen as the most important social question of its time and in need of academic research. The cornerstones of IVO's research are global commodity chains and development, institutional impact analysis, and macro accounting for policy analysis. In its research, IVO attempts to address three basic issues: poverty, income distribution, and globalization. IVO has established geographic and strategic alliances with a number of partner organizations in developing countries, and to strengthen its alliances and research capacity IVO provides academic guidance and facilities to a number of international Ph.D. students.

AMS was established by the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) as a foundation to make and maintain contact with parties in Central and Eastern Europe. The foundation is active in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Romania, and Bulgaria. AMS's main activity is providing training and schooling to social-democratic parties and groups on organizing (election) campaigns; teaching trainers; political communications and working with the media; and identifying target groups, and party renewal. Involving young people and women in politics is regarded as a priority by AMS, and many of its projects and publications receive financial support from the Matra Programme, under the auspices of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The foundation seeks to meet necessary demands and only provides courses at the request of Eastern European parties themselves, conducting training in the region. AMS has published a handbook for trainers that describes its particular methods, which are based on proven theories and many years of practical experience.
