The development of democracy and advancement and respect for human rights, along with the development of the quality of human resources in science and technology, are the pre-requisites for a nation to succeed and excel in global competition.
Democracy and the protection of human rights must be fought for with great determination as it will not emerge by itself. The struggle and efforts must be done concurrently and continuously by all members of society, including the government. The Habibie Center was established as a vehicle for the people of Indonesia to begin the continuing process of democratization and the protection of human rights.
Upholding democracy and respect for human rights must be prepared through increasing the quality of Indonesia’s human resources, which balances faith and piety with science and technology. A democratic society in Indonesia cannot be achieved without the development of a healthy information society and the understanding and proper utilization of science and technology which is disseminated to all levels of society in the maritime continent Indonesia.
