Thank you for your interest in the Strategic Studies Group.
Since 1986, GEES has contributed to the study of both international and Spanish security issues, in their political, strategic, military, economic, technological and industrial aspects.
We at GEES remain faithful to our ideology, as is demonstrated in our publications that span nearly twenty years of professional activity. In this time, we have tried to adapt to a changing strategic environment, but always from a position of clearly liberal-conservative principles and values.
For the majority of our existence, the scope of our work has been very narrow. We wrote for an audience formed of academic specialists in security and defense, "think tanks," the mass media, political parties, and the defense industry. We used the income produced by our consulting activities to finance our research and presence on the Internet. This page was created to reflect what we have already accomplished.
The events in New York and Washington on September 11th, 2001, along with the events in Madrid on March 11th, 2004, provoked important changes in the activities of GEES. The demand for our contributions increased greatly, as did the number of visits to our webpage. We were asked to embark on a new mission: to try to clarify, simply and pedagogically, the fundamental elements of the new strategic environment, with special attention to the Spanish case. Our analysts began to devise shorter, more direct texts with a higher content of opinion. As a response to the War Against Terror, GEES developed a greater ideological compromise.
The growing demand began to affect the services we offer. We began to update our webpage once or twice each week, adding an average of five new texts each time. We gained the rights to reprint the work of renowned international figures on our site, created links to external reference sites, and, above all, consolidated a group of our own contributors. Both the technical development of our webpage and the growing number of our contributors have precipitated an increase in our current expenses, which we cannot offset using only the income we have had to date. For this reason, we have considered opening a new line of financing, "patronage," as continues to be common in the international community of "think tanks." Centers of political analysis are a social necessity and each civil society must move itself to support their costs.
Your promise of economic support gives us the opportunity to continue investigating and writing about the problems of the national and international communities, and to be present in the current political arena.
