1. GEES (El Grupo de Estudios Estratégicos) or The Group for Strategic Studies is a non-profit association, private and non-partisan, that conducts research and analysis on international security and defense issues.
GEES was founded 1n 1987 with the purpose of unifying and promoting the work of a group of professionals devoted to strategic studies. Many people from different walks of life -academia, military, private entrepreneurs and liberal professions- have joined GEES.
The basic goals of GEES are:
- The study of international and Spanish security problems regarding all aspects: Political, strategic, military, economic, technological and industrial.
- To contribute with information and spreading the word about the problems faced by the international community, about the conflicts emerging among members and the requirements and alternatives to build and help consolidate a more stable and peaceful world.
- To make possible the communication and exchange of ideas among peoples and institutions related to planning and implementation of security policies.
- To produce reports, white papers and backgrounders about those issues if so requested to GEES.
In order to carry out its investigative goals, GEES counts with personnel and resources of its own. Most members belong to academia covering areas from Contemporary History, Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Economics to Information Technology; their ideas blend together with the experience and knowledge of the military people in active duty that are members of our group.
In order to provide the exchange of ideas about relevant aspects of international security, GEES organizes a Debate forum where experts, domestic and foreign, have the opportunity to express and contrast their own views. The Forum wants to generate an open environment for the exchange of ingenious ideas to enrich the national discourse about strategy.
GEES also contributes publicly to this discourse through broadcasting and publishing its reports and articles about diverse issues regarding security policies.
